10 things to do this weekend (September 4 to 6)

MANILA — Were your plans last week ruined by the heavy EDSA traffic? Now is your chance to bounce back and enjoy your rest day.

Here’s a list of activities that you can try:

1. The CCP 46th Anniversary Gala: Serenata

Experience a musical evening packed with folk songs performed by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in special musical arrangements by the acclaimed Maestro Ryan Cayabyab.

Apart from the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, the event will also be graced by award-winning groups such as the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Tanghalang Pilipino, Philippine Ballet Theatre and Ballet Philippines.

Serenata is CCP’s way to celebrate the strong collaboration among its various institutional partners and sponsors. It also helps in forging CCP’s Membership Program by sustaining funds for its arts education and audience development programs.

Members and guests are advised to wear Filipiniana attire.

2. Philippine Travel Mart

Purchase discount airfares and tourist packages as the Philippine Travel Mart brings some of the most trusted brands in the travel and tourism industry in a 3-day expo.

With the theme “The Philippines, the Fun Capital of Asia,” this year’s Philippine Travel Mart aims to give tourists more colorful and exciting travel plans.

From airways to land transportation facilities, they all have it.

This event is a collaboration between the Department of Tourism and the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA), an association of tour operators and agencies promoting and domestic and inbound tourism.

3. Cosmo Carnival 2015

Be prepared to experience a flirty, fun-filled event as Cosmopolitan Philippines magazine holds its first ever Cosmo Carnival.

Join in the festivities here and play games such as “Dunk the Cosmo Hunk.” There will also be a jail booth where cute cops are waiting to arrest you. Marriage and kissing booths with Cosmo hunks will also add to the “flirty” theme of the event.

4. Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival

Watch your favorite Disney characters perform as they return on stage for an enchanting show here in the Philippines.

Prepare to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy; Ariel, Sebastian and Ursula; Jasmine, Aladdin and Genie, among others.

Directed by Fred Tallaksen, the event is expected to bring a rock and roll experience to its audience.

5. Beauty in a Bottle

Did you miss the hit comedy film “Beauty in a Bottle”? Cinema One is giving you a chance to watch it again.

Where: Cinema One
When: September 6, 8 p.m.

Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, Star Cinema’s “Beauty in a Bottle” features sexy stars Angelica Panganiban, Angeline Quinto and Assunta de Rossi.

The film tells a story about three women who have physical insecurities, which were solved by the “Beauty in a Bottle.”

6. UAAP opening

Sit back, relax and watch the opening of the country’s premiere collegiate sports competition. University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is back and now on its 78th season.

Hosted by the University of the the Philippines (UP), this year’s UAAP opening ceremony is moved to September from July because of the academic calendar shift implemented by some of its participating universities.

7. ​The Birth of a Mission​

Watch young, world-class talents as they stage a musical concert.

Where: FEU Auditorium, Sampaloc, Manila

In celebration of its 3rd anniversary, the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) will perform with multi-awarded pianist Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz in a concert that is open to the public.

OFY comprises of young talents who come from the outskirts of Metro Manila. Tonight’s performance will be directed by Olivier Ochanine, the youngest Music Director of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

8. Manila’s 1st Picnic Pop Up

Bring your friends and families and enjoy a day of fun activities and delightful food at Manila’s first Picnic Pop Up.

Where: Burgos Park, Forbes Town Center, Fort Bonifacio
When: September 5

Manila’s first Picnic Pop Up offers exciting activities and workshops. There will also be a DIY pop-up ice cream parlor, where everyone can enjoy cool treats.

In the evening, get ready for an outdoor flash mob dinner with food selections from Bugsy’s Bar and Bistro, Bait’s by Chef Joseph Margate, and L’Entrecote Corner Bar and Bistro.

9. 2nd Taiwan Excellence Experiencing Zone

Get cool gadgets that suit your lifestyle and gaming needs as Taiwan’s top brands come to the Philippines to exhibit and sell their products.

Where: SM City North EDSA The Block Atrium
When: September 4 to 6

Here, guests can take a look at more than 200 products from 78 Taiwanese brands including Acer, ASUS, D-Link, KYMCO, Sakura and Transcend.

There will also be gigs and dance performances to keep you entertained.

The event is a partnership among the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, Bureau of Foreign Trade, and Taiwan External Trade Development Council.

10. Fiona Gavino’s “In-between-spaces” exhibit

Get a dose of culture at Fiona Gavino’s art exhibit where she shows sculptural installations, videos, and two-dimensional wall reliefs, all focused on space.

Where: CCP Museo ng Kalinangang Pilipino (MKP) Hall, Pasay City
When: September 4 to 20

Gavino is an artist who has Filipino, Maori, and Australian heritage. The exhibit is focused on her perception of cultural and architectural space, which she intersects with “Filipino material cultural traditions of basket weaving and contemporary visual dialogues.”
