Discovering Ilonggo Dishes

Iloilo is one of the most popular provinces in the islands of Panay, Philippines; and now one of the best tourist destinations. Home of the world-famous Dinagyang Festival and Paraw Regatta.

The people of Iloilo are now making noises to reclaim their crown as the first ” Queen City of the South”. Iloilo has undergone a drastic change and has been recently nominated for the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2016, a biennial international award that honors the outstanding contribution of cities towards the creation of livable, vibrant and sustainable urban communities worldwide. Currently the city of Iloilo is the host of the 2015 APEC Summit 

Aside from the boost of their economy and lifestyle, Iloilo is also considered as a Food Destination. Every tourist both local and international must try their delicious dishes such as batchoy, pancit molo, valenciana, chicken inasal and many more..

Tino-um na manok. Tinu-om in native ilonggo language means “balot” or “wrapped”, so Tinu-om na Manok means wrapped chicken. This is an authentic dish in the province of Cabatuan, Iloilo
Named after one of Iloilo City’s districts, Pancit Molo is one of the more identifiable pancit dishes in the country. It stands out uniquely among the noodle dishes mainly because of its non-traditional pancit look. It is a derivative of the Chinese wonton (filled dumplings) made into a soup.

I think this one tastes great. because K.B.L. or Kadyos, Baboy, Langka is the ultimate favorite dish of most Ilonggos.

Ginata-ang Bago-ngon with Dagmay (Gabi). Bago-ngon is a local snail that is a popular ingredient to all ilonggos. It is usually cooked with coconut milk and yam (gabi) or sometimes with bamboo shoots.
