MANILA – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said Thursday that the implementation of the free public Wi-Fi law is now 25 percent complete.
DOST undersecretary Louis Casambre told lawmakers at the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee that the full implementation of the law will be achieved within the year.
There are 7,118 free public Wi-Fi sites expected to be set up nationwide. Sites where Wi-Fi facilities will be installed include plazas and parks, public schoolyards and libraries, public spaces in rural health units, public spaces in government offices, and transport terminals.
The DOST gave the report during the agency’s budget briefing before the lower house, where they pitched for a total agency budget of P19.949 billion.
In an ambush interview, DOST Secretary Mario Montejo said the cost of free public Wi-Fi this year is about P1.4 billion.
