MANILA – The family of a Filipina burned to death in Malaysia is appealing to the government for help as they continue to seek justice for their loved one.
Rovelyn ”Ruby” Lloren Repotente, 35, was found burned to death inside her house in Johor Bahru last week, June 2, but until now her family does not have a clear picture of what really happened.
The victim’s husband, identified as Nooraffie Bin Ariffin, earlier told the Lloren family that their house was robbed when he was not around and the criminals set the house on fire, in the process killing the Filipina.
Repotente was reportedly keeping money she was supposed to send home to her family in Polomok, South Cotabato when the crime happened.
The victim’s sister, Rachel, is set to fly to Malaysia on Wednesday to get the remains.
Rachel, who just got back to the Philippines fro Kuwait last Monday, told ABS-CBNNews.com that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in General Santos City already promised to assist her in Malaysia.
She said, however, that the details of who exactly from the government will assist her in Malaysia is not yet clear a day before her flight.
The victim’s husband already paid for all the expenses of Rachel’s trip to Malaysia, and Rachel only wanted a representative from the government to accompany her since she is not familiar with the country.
The Lloren family also wants the government to help them in bringing the body of their loved one back to the Philippines so they can give her a proper burial.
Filipina’s husband as a suspect?
Meanwhile, Rachel and the rest of the Lloren family expressed their doubts on the Malaysian husband of Ruby.
She said the husband has not been consistent with his explanations and has also not been keeping them up to date with the details.
Rachel said the husband only told her his name on Tuesday, as he had to disclose such details in order for him to transfer money for the former’s trip to Malaysia.
The family also discovered that the husband of the Filipina is a policeman in Malaysia.
Rachel also revealed that her sister once told them that she had been locked inside the house because of jealousy.
However, DFA Assistant Secretary Charles Jose earlier said in a press conference that the government is still waiting for the results of the investigation before making any statements on the matter.
Lloren met her husband in Malaysia where she has been living and working already for seven years.
Meanwhile, a report from Malaysian online news portal, Rakyat Post, said police authorities initially believed that the Filipina’s death was caused by suffocation and classified it as a case of “sudden death.”
However, recent developments on the case are causing authorities to believe that Repotente’s death is a case of murder.
“We have reasons to believe there was a premeditated element that led to the victim’s death,” Johor Baru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh told The Rakyat Post.
The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, has already requested Malaysian authorities for a full investigation on the death of a Filipina.
“The Embassy, through its Police Attaché, has asked Malaysian police authorities for a full investigation of the tragic incident, particularly how and why Ms. Lloren was ‘trapped’ inside the burning house,” the Embassy said.–with reports from Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News General Santos City
