Japan eyes new laws to help Pinoy nurses land jobs

TOKYO – Japanese lawmakers are working to create new laws that will help facilitate the employment of Filipino nurses and caregivers.

Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said this was the commitment made by lawmakers belonging to the Japan-Philippines Parliamentarians Friendship League who met with Aquino at the sidelines of his state visit here.

Aquino had noted that language remained a barrier for nurses who wish to be employed in Japan.

President Aquino hopes that Japan will take steps to address this challenge to benefit all parties concerned.

Learning the Japanese language is a requirement for nurses and caregivers to be employed in Japan.

Meantime, Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda told Aquino in a separate meeting that the demand for Filipino doctors, nurses, and caregivers remain high in Japan.

“Mr. Kuroda says Filipino talents and skills still in high demand in Japan, especially doctors, nurses and caregivers for Japan’s aging population,” Coloma said in a statement.
